WVPT’s New Digital Line-up

September 30, 2008

When you turn on your television Wednesday morning October 1st you will see a new line-up for WVPT’s digital channels.  This will NOT change what viewers of our regular “analog” programming are used to watching either over the air or on cable or satellite.

BUT for our Digital Viewers, you will be able to enjoy all of our regular programming on WVPT-HD, plus we are excited about the addition of V-me (our new Spanish-language channel).  WVPT is the first broadcaster in the region to provide Spanish-language programming for our growing and under served Hispanic community.  And if you are a fan of the “how-to” programs, Create remains as one of our digital services.

WVPT Kids’ Book Festival

September 27, 2008

I just returned from today’s WVPT Kid’s Book Festival in Charlottesville and wanted to say, on behalf of the staff of WVPT, THANK YOU to the thousands of people (parents and children) who attended!

And a HUGE thank you to the sponsors who helped make this event possible.

WVPT is YOUR community Public Television Station.  And an event like Kids’ Book Festival is a great way for this organization to fulfill our mission to “educate” and “entertain” and “serve” our communities.  We do this on the air, on-line and of course with an event like Kids’ Book Festival – in the community.

If you attended Kid’s Book Festival, let us know how you liked it, and what you would like to see next year.

WVPT – Again Wins Awards from The Virginia Association of Broadcasters

September 18, 2008

After watching the taping of VIRGINIA FARMING yesterday and with the upcoming Kids’ Book Festival in Charlottesville on September 27th, I was reminded of the recent awards that WVPT received from The Virginia Association of Broadcasters.

VIRGINIA FARMING was honored as the Outstanding News Series  by a Public TV station in the state and Kids’ Book Festival won the award for Best Outreach and Promotion’s Event.  AND the WVPT website was honored as the best website in the state!

All three of these are indicative of the types of quality projects that WVPT produces throughout the year. They are each a product of our mission to make a difference in the lives of our audience, and are examples of our vision to connect the residents of our viewing area to each other, to their country and to the world through the use of broadcast television, the internet and community/educational outreach projects.

WVPT’s goal is to be YOUR SOURCE in whatever ways that you use our services: on-air, on-line or in the community.  Let us know how you think we are doing.  We depend on your feedback!
