With the upcoming 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, WVPT brings a special FRONTLINE.  An investigation by “Frontline,” ProPublica and the Times-Picayune (New Orleans) into allegations that New Orleans police officers used inappropriate deadly force against New Orleans citizens during the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  Wednesday night August 25th at 9PM on WVPT and WVPT-HD.  Click here for more information and to view a preview.


Masterpiece Classic: “The Diary of Anne Frank”

The most accurate adaptation of Anne Frank’s account of hiding from the Nazis stars newcomer Ellie Kendrick as the maturing teenager undergoing an extraordinary ordeal.  As many of you know the story – Anne Frank receives a diary for her thirteenth birthday in June 1942. The following month she and her family go into hiding in the secret annex behind her father’s business in Amsterdam to escape the Nazi roundup of Jews. An unusually perceptive writer, Anne records events in the annex over the course of the next two years.  The Diary of Anne Frank airs on Holocaust Remembrance Day, 2010.  Tune in to WVPT, Sunday April 11th beginning at 9pm for this 2-hour special.


The Story of Buddha Comes To PBS

Richard Gere narrates the story of the Buddha, who some 2500 years ago, in northern India, found enlightenment while meditating beneath a fig tree. This documentary by award-winning filmmaker David Grubin includes remarks from the Dalai Lama, among others and features the work of some of the world’s greatest artists and sculptors, who across two millennia, have depicted the Buddha’s life in art rich in beauty and complexity. Tune in for THE BUDDHA – Wednesday April 7th at 8PM on WVPT.


Charlie Rose Moves to 11pm with New Late Night Schedule

Beginning Monday April 5th, WVPT’s late night schedule is changing.  “Charlie Rose” moves to 11PM, followed at Midnight with the “BBC World News” and then at 12:30 tune in for the great interviews and guests on “Tavis Smiley”.

The schedule change is a result of the end of production for “World Focus” one of WVPT’s late night news and information programs.  The producers of “World Focus” announced last month that April 2nd would be the final progam of this news series.

So tune in for this NEW late night schedule statrting Monday April 5th on WVPT.

Invasion of The Giant Pythons! They Are Coming February 21st On NATURE . . .

As part of an ever popular international pet trade market, and incidentally along paths of human travel, many exotic animals have been removed from their native lands and landed where they are not necessarily welcome arrivals. Among these invasive species are a growing number of Burmese pythons, which have taken up residence in the wetlands of Florida, courtesy of overwhelmed pet owners and hurricane-hit animal warehouses.

Journey with NATURE as it investigates what comes next in the story of the Invasion of the Giant Pythons, as you follow teams of scientists and hunters as they use their vast knowledge of snakes and their prey to uncover the impact of the pythons on the park’s fragile ecosystems.
